The adventure of Pesaro, Italian Capital of Culture 2024, began today. The inauguration took place in the Vitrifrigo Arena, in front of eight thousand people (including two thousand students from schools in the province), in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, and the President of the Region, Francesco Acquaroli. The Mayor of Pesaro, Matteo Ricci, the Deputy Mayor, Daniele Vimini, and the Artistic Director of Pesaro 2024, Agostino Riitano, were also present. Liliana Segre sent a warm greeting to the city. The Olimpia Orchestra performed on stage. The event, broadcast live on Rai3, was hosted by Paolo Bonolis.

"We are proud to be among the protagonists of this year that will go down in the history of the city", said the Festival's general director, Cristian Della Chiara, who attended the inauguration with the city's mayor, Ernesto Palacio, "and that is why, in such a special year, we have prepared an even more special programme: a maxi-festival, four days longer than usual. Today has been a very moving morning, when people of all ages have come to Pesaro to proudly celebrate a goal that belongs to everyone and that will put our city even more at the centre of attention in Italy and abroad".
