2022: projects and figures
The year 2022 began with the presentation of the Festival’s new Artistic Director: on January 7th, Juan Diego Flórez met the press in the Town Hall. This was followed by Gioachino Rossini’s Birthday celebrations: on February 27th at the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, Tancredi was performed in concert form in collaboration with the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini.
On June 8th, the ROF participated with a Rossini recital in the Italian Republic Day celebrations at the headquarters of UNESCO, a United Nations agency that promotes peace and understanding among nations through education, science, culture, education and information. The event, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, involved Pesaro, UNESCO Creative City for Music, and the UNESCO Creative Cities of Alba, Fabriano and Carrara.
From July 4th to 18th, the 34th edition of the Accademia Rossiniana ‘Alberto Zedda’ was held at the Teatro Sperimentale, closed by the final concert of the students. The young talents of the Accademia were the protagonists of Il viaggio a Reims, staged at the Teatro Rossini on August 13th and 15th as part of the 43rd edition of the Festival, and of the Concerti al Museo, held at the Museo Nazionale Rossini on August 1st, 5th, 12th, 14th and 16th. The students also participated in the new project Salons Rossini, a mini-cycle of concerts held on July 24th, 27th and 31st in some precious villages in the province of Pesaro and Urbino: San Lorenzo in Campo, Gradara and San Costanzo.
The 43rd ROF was held from August 9th to 21st, and featured two new productions (Le Comte Ory and Otello), the revival of La gazzetta and the aforementioned Il viaggio a Reims, three opera-symphonic concerts, two Belcanto Concerts, a Concert from the Balcony of Casa Rossini, the return of Rossinimania with the musical entertainment Il sogno dell’orso, conceived by Sergio Ragni, and the celebratory Gala Tra rondò e tournedos, for Pier Luigi Pizzi’s 40th anniversary at the ROF.
During the Festival, from August 6th to 21st in the Sala Laurana of Palazzo Ducale, the Exhibition ROF15K was opened. It celebrates the first 15,000 days of the ROF’s life through 24 stage models of some of the main productions.
As part of the celebrations for the anniversary of Gioachino Rossini’s passing, Rossini e dintorni, a concert by violinist Giovanni Andrea Zanon and pianist Leonora Armellini, was held on November 13th at the Teatro Sperimentale.
Finally, the ROF returned to the Royal Opera House Muscat for the fourth of the five Rossini farces covered by the partnership with the Omani theatre: La cambiale di matrimonio, seen in Pesaro in 2020 in Laurence Dale’s staging, with sets and costumes by Gary McCann and lighting by Ralph Kopp, co-produced with the Royal Opera House Muscat. The opera premiered in the new critical edition edited by Eleonora Di Cintio on November 24th. The second performance took place on November 26th.
The tour programme included other important dates. On November 19th, one of the classic Lunch music concerts was held in the theatre’s Opera Galleria, offering famous opera arias to a diverse audience of opera enthusiasts and people wanting to approach opera. Between the two opera performances, the concert of Rossini duets and arias Homage to the Swan of Pesaro was held on November 25th.
