The third and last appointment with the Bel Canto Concerts will be on the 22nd August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Sperimentale and will feature Anastasia Bartoli, accompanied at the piano on this special occasion by Cecilia Gasdia.  The singer, taking part in the Festival for the first time, is also taking the leading soprano part in Stefano Poda’s production of Eduardo e Cristina.

The programme is made up of music by Verdi, Skrjabin, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Liszt, Wagner and Rossini.  Lady Macbeth’s Scena “Nel dì Concertodella vittoria io le incontrai”, Cavatina “Vieni! T’affretta!” and Cabaletta “Or tutti sorgete” from Macbeth by Giuseppe Verdi; Cinq Préludes Op. 16 N° 2  Allegro in G sharp minor for solo pianoforte by Aleksandr Skrjabin; Shakespeare Songs Op. 24 The fool, by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco; Aus Richard Wagners Lohengrin  S. 446 Lohengrins Verweis an Elsa piano solo by Franz Liszt; Elsas Traum “Einsam in trüben Tagen” from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner; Huit Études Op. 42 N° 4 Andante in F sharp major for solo piano by Aleksandr Skrjabin; a group by Gioachino Rossini: Péchés de vieillesse, Vol. XI Miscellanée de musique vocale N° 7. “Arietta all’antica” on the O salutaris hostia “Mi lagnerò tacendo”; N° 3. The soprano Anastasia Bartoli was born in Florence, took her diploma in operatic singing at the Verona Conservatory, and was then chosen by Carlo Rizzi to sing excerpts from Cavalleria rusticana at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.  She has sung Hanna Glawari in the Merry Widow at the Teatro Verdi, Padua, she sang Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth for the first time at the Tokyo Spring Festival conducted by Riccardo Muti, in Trieste she sang Rossini’s Stabat Mater, in which she also performed in Turin with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai conducted by Michele Spotti; in Arezzo she took part in an Opera Gala.  She has sung Abigaille in Nabucco at the Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari; Maria Boccanegra in Simon Boccanegra with Placido Domingo at the Teatro Massimo, Palermo; Elvira in Ernani at the Rome Opera, conducted by Marco Armiliato; Nedda in Pagliacci at the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari.  She made her first appearance in Madrid in Macbeth conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni.  Among her future engagements are I due Foscari and Ernani at La Fenice, Venice, and Simon Boccanegra at the Florence May Festival
