Dario Fo and Rossini: an exhibition in Napoli
The Rossini Opera Festival has provided the stage model and some costumes from the Gazzetta for the exhibition ‘Dario Fo e le Opere Buffe di Rossini’, open at Memus – Museo memoria e Musica del Teatro San Carlo, organised by the theatre together with the Fondazione Fo Rame.
The exhibition, curated by Stefano Bertea and Mattea Fo (Dario and Franca’s granddaughter), is divided into two exhibition paths: ‘La Gazzetta: una regia per immagini’, at Memus, the Museum and Historical Archive of the San Carlo Theatre, and ‘L’Italiana in Algeri: dal disegno alla scena’, at Officine San Carlo, the urban creativity factory in Vigliena. Photographs, sketches, drawings, notes, articles and costumes tell the visitor about the unique bond between Dario Fo and Rossini.
Dario Fo collaborated several times with the Rossini Opera Festival, staging two brilliant and colourful productions in Pesaro, fruit of his whimsical genius: L’Italiana in Algeri, staged in 1994 and revived in 2006; La gazzetta, presented in 2001 and revived in 2005.
The model of La gazzetta is usually housed in the Museo Nazionale Rossini in Pesaro, as part of the exhibition Rossini 15K. Quindicimila giorni.
