The first Concerto di Belcanto

Always eagerly awaited by Festival audiences, the Bel Canto Concerts are back.  The series will be opened by Sonia Prina, who will sing on the 16th August at 4.00 p.m.at the Teatro Rossini, accompanied at the piano by Paolo Spadaro Munitto.  The programme includes music by W.A. Mozart, G. Rossini, V. Bellini, H. Duparc, B. Bartók, M. de Falla.  Info: 0721.3800294.

Born in Magenta, the contralto Sonia Prina began her musical studies at an early age at the Milan Conservatorio where she won her diploma in trumpet and singing.  In 1996 she was admitted to the Accademia of La Scala, Milan.
In 2006 she won the Abbiati prize as the best singer of the year.
She is regularly invited to appear at the leading theatres and festivals: La Scala, Milan, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Opéra, Paris, the Teatro Real, Madrid, the Liceu, Barcelona, the Sydney Opera, the Barbican, London, the Lyric Opera, Chicago and the San Francisco Opera, the Staatsoper, Munich, the Salzburg Festival, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Zürich Opera, collaborating with such conductors as Alessandrini, Antonini, Bicket, Biondi, Bolton, Curtis, Christie, Dantone, Fasolis, Haïm, Hogwood, Jacobs, McCreesh, Minkowski, Spinosi, Summers and with such stage directors as Carsen (Rinaldo and Alcina), McVicar (Orlando and Giulio Cesare), Pizzi (Orfeo), Copley (Ariodante), Alden (Alcina).
The Rossini Opera Festival heard her as Tisbe in La Cenerentola (2000), as well as in another Bel Canto Concert in 2012.

The remaining Bel Canto Concert will be given by Barbara Frittoli on the 20th August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini.
