Mariotti honorary citizen of Pesaro
If the Rossini Opera Festival has become one of the most important monographic festivals on the international scene and the undisputed driving force of the Rossini renaissance that carries the name of Pesaro throughout the world, it is thanks to him: Gianfranco Mariotti, today Honorary President of the ROF and a pre-eminent figure in national musical culture.
This is why the Municipality of Pesaro – at the proposal of deputy mayor Daniele Vimini – decided to confer honorary citizenship on him: perhaps not everyone knows that Mariotti was born in Perugia. The recognition attests to the work of the highest quality of someone who in 1980 gave life to a cultural project of excellence that established solid roots for the growing path that led us first to Pesaro Unesco Creative City of Music and then to Italian Capital of Culture 2024.
The conferment of honorary citizenship on Mariotti is part of the celebrations for a very important birthday: that of his 90th birthday on next June 17th. On that occasion – more precisely on June 21st, European Music Day – in Piazza del Popolo, the official handover with a special dedication in music.
