Concert of Enea Scala
The Rossini Opera Festival continues with the Concerti di Belcanto [Bel Canto Concerts], on the 21st August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Sperimentale with Enea Scala as the soloist, accompanied at the pianoforte by Michele D’Elia, with music by Rossini, Mayr, Bellini, Chopin, Verdi, Cherubini, Berlioz and Massenet.
The programme consists of: Péchés de vieillesse Vol. III Morceaux réservés N° 2. L’esule (Gioachino Rossini); Scena and Entrance Aria of Egeo “Io ti lasciai, piangendo” from Medea in Corinto (Johann Simon Mayr); Per pietà, bell’idol mio, Arietta; Salvini’s Aria “Sì, cadrò, ma estinto ancora” from Adelson e Salvini (Vincenzo Bellini); from 24 preludes for the pianoforte Op. 28 N° 15: The raindrop prelude, Sostenuto in D flat major (Fryderyk Chopin); Argirio’s Aria “Ah! segnar invano io tento” from Tancredi (Gioachino Rossini); a group by Giuseppe Verdi: Prelude for solo piano, from I masnadieri; More, Elisa, lo stanco poeta (from Sei romanze); Il poveretto, song; Brindisi from the Album di sei romanze, Romanza and Waltz in F major for pianoforte solo; Jason’s Air “Éloigné pour jamais” from Médée by Luigi Cherubini; the Aria of Énée “Inutiles regrets” from Les Troyens by Hector Berlioz; Méditation, piano solo from Thaïs by Jules Massenet; Rodrigo’s Cavatina “Eccomi a voi, miei prodi” from La donna del lago by Gioachino Rossini.
The tenor Enea Scala was born in Ragusa; he has sung with such conductors as Bartoletti, Battistoni, Bisanti, Carignani, Ettinger, Haïm, López-Cobos, Luisi, Mariotti, Mazzola, Muti, Noseda, C. Rizzi, Rousset, Rustioni, Sacripanti and with stage directors including Bernard, Ceresa, Clement, Cucchi, Font, Grinda, Lescot, Michieletto, Py, Pountney, Vick, Villazon, Vizioli, Wake Walker. His most recent and future engagements include Le chant sur la mort de Haydn with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muti, Carmina Burana with L’Orchestre du Capitole, Rigoletto, La Juive, Gianni Schicchi, Semiramide, Roberto Devereux, La bohème, Werther, Armida, La traviata, Guillaume Tell, Norma, Les Huguenots, Rossini’s Otello, Manon, Anna Bolena, Les Troyens, Bastarda.
A pupil of the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda”, he made his first appearance at the ROF in the rôle of Count Libenskof in Il viaggio a Reims in 2009, coming back in the following years to sing the parts of Radoski, Mambre, Count Alberto and Otello. At the ROF 2023 Enea Scala is singing Carlo in Stefano Poda’s production of Eduardo e Cristina.
The last in this series of concerts will take place on the 22nd August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Sperimentale, and will be sung by Anastasia Bartoli.
