Daniel Smith Symphony Concert

On the 18th August at 3.30 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini Daniel Smith will conduct the Filarmonica G. Rossini in the last Symphony Concert featured in the ROF 2022.

The programme will include  music by Rossini (the Overtures to La gazza ladra and Il barbiere di Siviglia), Bellini (the Overture to Il pirata) and Dvorák (the Symphony N° 9 in E minor Op. 95, From the New World).  Info: 0721. 3800294.

Daniel Smith was born in Sydney, studied at the Mozarteum, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at Trinity College, London.  In international competitions he has been praised by Sir George Solti and Grzegorz Fitelberg, among others.  He was invited by Valery Gergiev to the Mariinsky  Theatre, where he is a regular guest conductor.  He works with such orchestras as the Czech Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic, Opera Australia, Den Norske Opera of Oslo, the Greek National Opera, and with such stage directors as Zeffirelli and Michieletto.  He has been a regular guest at the Teatro Carlo Felice.  His repertoire also includes contemporary music: ?tzi by Giorgio Battistelli, the Sinfonia of Nicola Campogrande and the Concerto  per flauto by Fazil Say.  He has published a new critical edition of Smetana’s Má vlast.  He is an Ambassador of Australian Culture in Italy and an honorary member of the Premio Paganini.  He sponsors the diffusion of music through the Daniel Smith Gift of Music Foundation.

The orchestra named the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini, founded by its Artistic Director  Michele Antonelli,  and by musicians enjoying international careers, gave its first concerts in 2014 in the Auditorium Pedrotti, Pesaro.  Donato Renzetti assumed the role of its Principal Conductor in 2015.
The orchestra’s international activities have been intense: at the Beiteddine Art Festival in Lebanon, with Juan Diego Flórez and Anna Netrebko; at the Royal Albert Hall, London, at the Musikverein, Vienna and at the Mozarteum, besides collaborating with the Royal Opera House, Muscat.
With Donato Renzetti, the Filarmonica has realized the Rossini in viaggio project [Rossini travels] to make known the more unfamiliar of Rossini’s works.  The FGR is a partner in the organization of the first edition of the Arezzo Raro Festival.  It has taken part in the Ravello Festival, the Festival delle Nazioni and will be part of the Macerata Opera Festival.
The Filarmonica has published a CD with Juan Diego Flórez and another of the Complete Rossini Overtures, conducted by Donato Renzetti.
