Berzanskaya Gianfaldoni

The first of the three Operatic Orchestral Concerts programmed for the ROF 2022 will be held on the 14th August at 3.30 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini and will feature Giuliana Gianfaldoni and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, both of whom have been pupils of the Accademia Rossiniana.  The tenor Matteo Roma will also take part.  Vitali Alekseenok will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna (chorus master Mirca Rosciani).  The programme will include music from Rossini’s operas Le siège de Corinthe, Zelmira, Ermione and Tancredi. Giuliana Gianfaldoni was born in Taranto. She won the AsLiCo Competition and the Ottavio Ziino Competition.  She made her debut in 2013 at Tenerife in Così fan tutte, subsequntly singing  at the   Salzburg Festival in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.  Among her recent and future engagements may be mentioned L’elisir d’amore at Piacenza, Carmen at Turin, Gianni Schicchi at Montpellier and Piacenza, J. Foroni’s Margherita at Wexford, La fille du régiment at Trieste and at the Teatro Regio, Turin, Rigoletto at Bari and Muscat, Il viaggio a Reims at Tenerife, Idomeneo at Palermo, Falstaff at Piacenza, Palermo, Bari and Lille, Un ballo in maschera at the Verdi Festival, Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali at Piacenza, Elisabetta regina d’Inghilterra at Marseilles, Roméo et Juliette at Bari, Turandot at Turin, La bohème at Buenos Aires and Verona, Don Pasquale at Palermo, Beatrice di Tenda at the Festival of the Valle d’Itria and Il diluvio universale at the Donizetti festival.  After studying at the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” in 1919, she has appeared at the ROF singing La cambiale di matrimonio (2020), the Stabat Mater (2021) and in February 2022 Tancredi.

The mezzosoprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya was born in Essentuki; she won her diploma at the Gnesin Academy of Moscow, where she was a pupil of Ruzanna Lisitsian.  Her repertoire includes works by Rossini, Mozart, Vivaldi, Bellini, Gounod, Tchaikovsky and  Offenbach, which she has sung at the Teatro dell’Opera, Rome, the Theater Basel, rhe Deutsche Oper, Berlin, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Mikhailovsky Theater of St. Petersburg, the Novosibirsk Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Florence May Festival, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Covent Garden, the Salzburg Festival.  She has performed with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Mariss Jansons, Daniele Gatti, Dmitri Jurowski, Vladimir Jurowski, Michele Mariotti, Andrea Marcon, Enrique Mazzola, Stefano Montanari, Donald Runnicles, Giacomo Sagripanti, Michele Spotti, Alexander Vedernikov.  After having studied at the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” in 2016, she has appeared at the ROF singing, in 2021, Moïse et Pharaon and the Stabat Mater,  afterwards winning the Young Singer of the Year prize at the International Opera Awards.  This year she will also sing in the closing event of the ROF, Tra rondò e tournedos.

The two further Operatic orchestral Concerts will be given on the 17th August (soloist: Nahuel Di Pierro) and on the 18th August (featuring  Michael Spyres) at 3.30 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini.
