200 years ago, on December 3rd, 1822, the Cantata Il vero omaggio, composed by Gioachino Rossini at the invitation of Prince Klemens von Metternich was performed at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona on the occasion of the Congress of the Holy Alliance. Among the almost one thousand spectators present at the evening were Tsar Alexander I, Emperor Franz I of Austria, King Frederick William of Prussia and King Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies.
The Cantata was revived at the Festival on August 18th, 2004 at the Teatro Rossini, with Donato Renzetti conducting the Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and the Prague Chamber Choir. The cast included Darina Takova (Argene), Manuela Custer (Alceo), Mario Zeffiri (Fileno / Genio) and Carlo Lepore (Elpino).
