The new Artistic Director of the Rossini Opera Festival Juan Diego Flórez had his first meeting with the Press in Pesaro’s Town Hall along with the President Daniele Vimini and the Intendant Ernesto Palacio.

These are his first words as the newly appointed Artistic Director: “ I deeply thank that the Management of the ROF for entrusting me with such a prestigious assignment. I will be joining a team with great experience and valour that has created a Festival that has reached a great level of excellence, the ROF brand is an international beacon for the music of Gioachino Rossini and his incredible vocal demands. I travel very much for my job and this will allow me to create new partnerships with other theatres and Festivals and also discover new talents during my frequent master classes. I adore working with young artists and I consider the Accademia Rossiniana extremely precious for young voices especially because it is part and parcel of the Festival and not just a collateral experience. I am also President of the Sinfonia por el Perù who’s aim is to get needy children interested in music and off the streets, this year alone we have seven thousand candidates. This year our Orchestra will be playing in Salzburg, Lucerne and Gstaad and I’ really looking forward to bringing them to Pesaro one day. My famous predecessor at the ROF was Maestro Alberto Zedda who guided this Festival as Artistic Director for many years while still continuing his career as a conductor. Many artists still in career are running famous Festivals, Cecilia Bartoli, Renaud Capuçon and Rolando Villazon. I’m convinced that an artist who is at the pinnacle of his career has a lot to offer especially to young artists and travelling the world for International engagements is a plus for an Artistic Director. I will go on with my career and I will also be an Artistic Director: I’m convinced that along with our staff we will do a great job”.
