The second and final Concerto lirico-sinfonico [Operatic Symphony Concert] on the programme of the ROF 2023 will take place on the 20th August at 3.30 p.m. at the Teatro Sperimentale and will be sung by Maria Kataeva, returning to the Festival after her success in last year’s edition in the rôle of Isolier in Le Comte Ory.

With Marco Mencoboni conducting the Filarmonica G. Rossini the mezzo-soprano will perform selections by G. Rossini, V. Bellini, W.A. Mozart, G. Bizet, G. Giménez, P. Luna: the Overture and Tancredi’s Cavatina “Tu che accendi questo core… Di tanti palpiti” from Tancredi and Cenerentola’s Rondò “Nacqui all’affanno, e al pianto” from La Cenerentola, both by Rossini; the Overture and Romeo’s Cavatina “Ascolta! Se Romeo t’uccise un figlio” from Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti ed i Montecchi; the Overture and Sesto’s Aria “Parto, ma tu, ben mio” from Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito; the Carmen Suite N° 1 by Georges Bizet; the Habanera “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” and the Chanson bohème “les tringles des sistres tintaient” from Carmen by Bizet; the Intermedio from the zarzuela La boda de Luis Alonso by Gerónimo Giménez, and the Canción española “De España vengo” from El niño judío by Pablo Luna.

Maria Kataeva (mezzo-soprano), born in Novo Kuznetsk (Russia), took her diploma at the Conservatoire in Saint Petersburg and while she was still studying was able to take part in the opera programme of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where she became a permanent member of the ensemble and principal soloist. On the Düsseldorf stage she has sung leading rôles in musical works ranging from the baroque to contemporary music.

She has won prizes in numerous singing competitions.  In 2014 she came third in the Paris Opéra competition.  In 2016 she won first prize in the general category and third prize in the German category in the “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” competition.

In 2019 she was awarded both the second prize and the audience’s first prize  in the Operalia competition.  Among her forthcoming engagements are the title rôle in the new production of Bizet’s Carmen at the Hamburg State Opera, I Capuleti ed i Montecchi at Palermo, The Maid of Orléans at Düsseldorf.
