The Concerti di Belcanto (Bel Canto Concerts), eagerly awaited every year by Festival audiences, continue.  This time it is the turn of Jack Swanson, well received as Florville in Il Signor Bruschino, to perform on the 17th August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini.  The programme includes music by Rossini, Mozart, Bernstein, Weill, Quilter, Poulenc, Puccini, Tosti.  Gianni Fabbrini will accompany at the piano.

The tenor Jack Swanson, born in Minnesota (USA), studied at the University of Oklahoma and at the Shepherd School of Music at the Rice University, besides two years at the Santa Fe Opera, where he subsequently returned to sing Lindoro in L’Italiana in Algeri.  Recently he has made a series of successful first appearances: at the Frankfurt Opera as Rodrigo in Damiano Michieletto’s new production of Rossini’s Otello, as Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at Den Norske Opera, as Sam Kaplan in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene at the Cologne Opera, as Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Glyndebourne on Tour, and as Candide in a concert performance at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

This season he will sing the title rôle in Le Comte Ory for the first time in a new production for the Garsington Opera, conducted by Valentina Peleggi, and will return to Oslo as Count Almaviva.  In the concert hall he will make his first appearance at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rossini’s Stabat Mater conducted by Myung-Whun Chung, and in a recital for the Frankfurt Opera together with the pianist Malcolm Martineau.

The two remaining concerts in the series Concerti di Belcanto will be given on the 19th August (by Anna Bonitatibus) and on the 20th August (by Nino Machaidze) at 4.00 p.m., again at the Teatro Rossini.
