Messa per Rossini
The Messa per Rossini was proposed by Verdi shortly after the composer’s death in 1869. Various authors contributed to the composition, including Verdi himself, Lauro Rossi, Carlo Pedrotti and Carlo Coccia. This rare piece will close the 2025 edition of the festival on Friday 22 August. Rediscovered in 1988, the Mass enjoyed moderate popularity. More recently, it has been performed at La Scala and in the Basilica of San Petronio, for which it was originally intended in 1869. This summer’s event is therefore unmissable for enthusiasts, even if it is not the work of Rossini’s own genius.
