The message from Michele dall’Ongaro

“My appointment as president of the Rossini Opera Festival, for which I warmly thank Mayor Andrea Biancani and the governing bodies of the Foundation, is one of those pieces of news that can only be welcomed with enormous satisfaction and pride.
The fame and importance that this event has achieved over the decades throughout the world is such as to excite and surprise even those who have never heard a note by the Pesaro composer, let alone the thousands of enthusiasts who flock to the capital of the Marche region every year.
The great importance of the festival for the musical life of the country, the quality of the work demonstrated by the protagonists of this experience, the significant international fame and the reputation now consolidated by countless awards are precious assets to be preserved, handed down and innovated with special care and attention.
As I have repeated in recent days from my experience at the RAI, in the past, I have been able to certify these values by collecting the reservations that dozens of radio stations from all over the world send to secure live or recorded broadcasts of the scheduled titles, a request so abundant that it breaks all records, equalled in our country only by the “premiere” at La Scala.
All this confirms, if confirmation were needed, the genius of the founding fathers (Gianfranco Mariotti in particular) who, by bringing together the glorious Rossini Foundation and the Festival, created an event that is unrivalled in Europe and which, thanks to the synergy of the minds involved, continues to grow and enrich its content with original projects.
I am therefore delighted to be called upon to contribute to the magnificent work that Ernesto Palacio, Juan Diego Florez, Cristian Della Chiara and all the extraordinary festival staff are doing so admirably, without forgetting the valuable experience of those who came before me, ensuring the Foundation’s stability and vision.”
