Mosè in Egitto, as staged in Pesaro last summer at the Rossini Opera Festival, will be broadcast tomorrow, Saturday 4th February, at 10.00 p.m. (in Italy, four o’clock on the following morning) by WDAV Classical Public Radio as part of the ‘World of Opera’ programme, presented by the journalist Lisa Simeone. WDAV Radio, one of the most important in the United States where classical music programmes are concerned, is part of the National Public Radio network, consisting of 900 public stations from all over the country.
One of the most exciting and gripping shows in all the thirty years of the Festival’s existence, Mosè in Egitto was truly an event in last season’s international opera calendar. The production by the English director Graham Vick, with costumes and scenery designed by Stuart Nunn, gave rise to an impassioned debate through being set in our own times, in the midst of the conflict in the Middle East. Roberto Abbado conducted the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Comunale, Bologna. The singers included Riccardo Zanellato in the title rôle, with Alex Esposito, Dmitry Korchak, Yijie Shi, Sonia Ganassi, Olga Senderskaya, Enea Scala and Chiara Amarù.
