The return of Il viaggio a Reims with young singers

12 August 2017

Friday 14th August will mark the return, at 11.00 a.m. at the Teatro Rossini (with a repeat at the same time on Sunday 16th) of Il viaggio a Reims, the scenic cantata which has now become a symbol of the Rossini Opera Festival.  As from 2001 the Rof, as an integral part of the Youth Festival, has offered performances of Il viaggio by the young singers who have been forming their style in the Accademia Rossiniana.  This arduous task has prepared many of them for singing on the stages of important theatres, beginning with the Pesaro Festival, which this year is once more engaging several ex-pupils in its productions.

The production is the well-tried one, also transported abroad to the Teatro Real, Madrid and the Florence May Festival, by Emilio Sagi and rehearsed by Elisabetta Courir, with costumes by Pepa Ojanguren. The Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini will be conducted by Maestro Michele Spotti.  The casts for the two performances will feature Francesca Tassinari and Beatriz de Sousa (Corinna), Valeria Girardello and Martiniana Antonie (Marchesa Melibea), Sofia Mchedlishvili and Giorgia Paci (Contessa di Folleville), Marigona Qerkezi and Noluvuyiso Mpofu (Madama Cortese), Alasdair Kent and  Oscar Oré (Cavalier Belfiore), Ruzil Gatin and Emmanuel Faraldo (Conte di Libenskof), Daniele Antonangeli and Elcin Huseynov (Lord Sidney), Roberto Lorenzi (Don Profondo), Michael Borth (Barone di Trombonok), Gurgen Baveyan  and Francesco Auriemma (Don Alvaro), Elcin Huseynov and Daniele Antonangeli (Don Prudenzio), Oscar Oré and Alasdair Kent (Don Luigino), Noluvuyiso Mpofu and Francesca Tassinari (Delia), Martiniana Antonie and Valeria Girardello (Maddalena), Giorgia Paci and Marigona Qerkezi (Modestina), Emmanuel Faraldo and Ruzil Gatin (Zefirino/Gelsomino)  and Aleksandr Utkin (Antonio).

This year also the opening night of Il viaggio a Reims may be seen in direct streaming on the website and on the Festival’s YouTube channel, in collaboration with the Town Council of Pesaro and Amat.
