The last Bel Canto Concert is by Yijie Shi

Yijie Shi will give the last of the Concerti di Belcanto on Wednesday 21st August at 5.00 p.m. at the Auditorium Pedrotti (at the piano: Hana Lee). The programme includes music by Gioachino Rossini (‘La partenza’, ‘La promessa’ and ‘L’orgia’ from the Soirées musicales; the Aria ‘Que les destins prospères’ from Le comte Ory; Ramiro’s Aria ‘Sì, ritrovarla io giuro’ from La Cenerentola), Francesco Cilea (Federico’s Aria ‘È la solita storia del pastore’ from L’Arlesiana), Charles Gounod (the Cavatina ‘Salut! Demeure chaste et pure’ from Faust), Franz Lehár (Sou-Chong’s Aria ‘Dein ist mein ganzes Herz’ from Das Land des Lächelns) and Gaetano Donizetti (Fernando’s Aria ‘Spirto gentil’ from La favorita).

The tenor Yijie Shi was born in Shanghai in 1982, and began his musical studies in his home town.  After taking his diploma at the Toho College of Music in Tokyo, he won a scholarship that allowed him to continue his studies in Graz. He has won numerous competitions, including the Tagliavini, Toti Dal Monte, Caniglia and Festspielstadt Passau, and he has studied with C. Xuan, A. Yamasaki, K. Busch, A. Molitoris, P. Schmelzer and R. Barker.

Among his international successes in opera: Armida at the Metropolitan, Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria at the Vlaamse Opera, Il viaggio a Reims at Santa Cecilia with K. Nagano, Mozart’s Krönungsmesse at the Teatro Manzoni, Bologna, with R. Abbado, Sarka at La Fenice, Rossini’s Otello at Lausanne, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Tokyo conducted by Alberto Zedda.
