Pizzi’s new Barber of Seville at the ROF 2018

16 August 2017

Contrary to what was previously announced, the programme of the Rossini Opera Festival 2018 will be completed by a new production of Il barbiere di Siviglia, entrusted to the refined inventiveness of Pier Luigi Pizzi.

Having considered the unanticipated technical problems that would arise from the proposed revival of the Barbiere di Siviglia staged at Pesaro in 2005 by Luca Ronconi, the Festival Direction has decided to entrust the Milanese director, whose Pietra del paragone was enthusiastically received this year, with the task of inventing the new revival.

The ROF 2018 will therefore offer a trio of new productions in the main programme: Ricciardo e Zoraide, produced by Marshall Pynkoski and conducted by Giacomo Sagripanti; Adina, produced by Rosetta Cucchi and conducted by Diego Mattheuz; Il barbiere di Siviglia, in Pier Luigi Pizzi’s new version, conducted by Yves Abel.
