Monica Bacelli’s Recital in the Bel Canto Concerts series

On Wednesday 17th August at 4.30 p.m. at the Auditorium Pedrotti Monica Bacelli will give the second concert of the Bel Canto Concerts 2016, accompanied at the piano by Pietro De Maria. The programme consists of music by Franz Schubert and Gioachino Rossini.

Born in Chieti, the mezzo-soprano Monica Bacelli took her diploma at the Conservatorio of Pescara. She won the Concorso Belli and made her début as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. After this her developing career led her to the leading international theatres and concert organizations (La Scala, the Vienna Staatsoper, Covent Garden, the San Francisco Opera, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw), working with such conductors as C. Abbado, Chailly, Chung, Mehta, Muti, Ozawa, Pappano and Rattle. Winner of the Abbiati Prize, her repertoire includes Mozart and Rossini rôles, and ranges from baroque opera to French opera of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, (Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Werther, Don Quichotte, L’Enfant et les sortilèges). Well known as an interpreter of modern opera, she has been entrusted with numerous first performances (Berio, Tutino, Fedele).

At the Rossini Opera Festival she sang in 1988 in Otello (Emilia), in 1991 in the Cantate per I Borboni(Bourbon cantatas), in 1995 in Guillaume Tell (Hedwige) and the Messa di Gloria.
