The Marionette Company of Carlo Colla and Sons is one of the best known in the world, with nearly three centuries of activity to its credit and it has been the Teatro Stabile di Marionette (1906-1957) at the Teatro Gerolamo in Piazza Beccaria in Milan.  Today its shows are welcomed all over the world by audiences composed of adults and young people, on the occasion of  the most  important national and international festivals.  Following a nineteenth-century tradition, their repertoire  includes operas by Monteverdi, Melani, Haydn, Haendel, Cimarosa, Verdi, Ponchielli and Puccini.

A true masterpiece in the buffo genre, L’Italiana in Algeri  tells the love story of Isabella, who leaves home to search for her beloved Lindoro, and paid court to in vain by Mustafà , the Bey of Algiers.  Isabella uses all her feminine wiles to make fun of him and take Lindoro back home with her.  The happy ending is guaranteed.

The President of the ROF, the Deputy Mayor of Pesaro, Daniele Vimini said:”The Festival is continuing to de-seasonalize and to internationalize  its activities.  As usual the operation is on the highest level: the Colla brothers are a guarantee of quality, the show is suitable for families and offers an opportunity for a new audience to make discoveries.  Its happening parallel to the 2019 edition of the Burattini Opera Festival allows Pesaro to offer ten days dedicated to puppet and marionette shows on a national level.”

The General Administrator  Ernesto Palacio added: “The Colla brothers are extraordinary, the show will be a very suitable way of introducing  the youngest in the audience to approach opera gradually, like a sort of introduction to the lyric stage.  Besides, in February 2020, to celebrate Rossini’s birthday, we will stage an Italiana in Algeri with a completely young cast, which will also be another way of opening ourselves up to a different audience, not so used to going to the theatre.”

Vincenzo Massetti of the Human Company tells how the show was born:”Two years ago we proposed this show, together with our friends of the Aido Pesaro, to Daniele Vimini: the ROF was the most suitable institution with whom we might collaborate,  and, in fact, we found everyone there very interested.  The Colla company will return to this prestigious theatre with a new production that will be given its first performance in Pesaro and that we hope may go on to tour other theatres.”
