Juan Francisco Gatell will give his recital on Monday 18 August at 5.00 p.m. at the Auditorium Pedrotti.
The tenor was born in Buenos Aires and has sung in the most important theatres in Europe, North and South America, including the Florence May Festival, La Scala, the Rome Opera, La Fenice, Venice, the Musikverein and the Staatsoper, Vienna, the Thèâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris, the Salzburg Festival, and at Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Washington.
During the 2013-2014 season he has made his first appearances at the Royal Opera House of Muscat, in Oman, as the Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia, as Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff at the Los Angeles Opera and as Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s progress at La Fenice, Venice.
He also returned to La Scala in Lucia di Lammermoor and to Vienna in Così fan tutte for the Wiener Festwochen, and he sang Mozart’s Requiem at the Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari.
He already appeared in Pesaro in 2011 as Dorvil in La scala di seta and Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia in concert form, the closing event of the Festival; this year he is singing Count Almaviva again in the production mounted by the Accademia di Belle Arti of Urbino.
The programme includes numbers by Rossini (Péchés de vieillesse, La pietra del paragone), Mozart (Don Giovanni), Beethoven (Quattro ariette e un duetto, Op. 82), Donizetti (Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, Le crépuscule), Auber (Fra Diavolo), Gounod (La colombe). The accompanist at the piano is Beatrice Benzi.
