Juan Diego Flórez will offer a special concert of Rossini Rarities on Monday 16th August at 8.30 p.m. at the open-air theatre erected in Piazza del Popolo, accompanied by the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini conducted by Michele Spotti.
From the programme, composed of rarely performed pieces and alternative numbers, two first ever performances may be singled out: the alternative ending of “Ah! Ch’io sento in mezzo al core” from La pietra del paragone and the Pas de deux from Guillaume Tell (Paris version, 1829). The carefully researched programme further includes the youthful compositions Sinfonia del Conventello, the Sinfonia in D major and the Sinfonia obbligata a contrabbasso; the Recitative “Oh, come il fosco, impetuoso nembo” and Giocondo’s Aria “Quell’alme pupille” from La pietra del paragone; the Overture to Robert Bruce; the alternative Cavatina for Lindoro “Concedi, amor pietoso” from L’Italiana in Algeri; the alternative Cavatina for Giacomo “T’arrendi al mesto pianto” from La donna del lago: the alternative Cavatina for Narciso “Un vago sembiante” from Il turco in Italia; the Aria for tenor and orchestra “Alla gloria un genio eletto”.
Making his outstanding début at the ROF in 1996, Juan Diego Flórez has appeared at the leading musical institutions world-wide and with the most celebrated conductors. Founder and President of the association Sinfonia por el Perù, he is an Ambassador of Unesco and a Kammersänger.
