On Wednesday 12th and Saturday 15th August at 8.30 p.m., in the entirely original setting of the open-air theatre built in Piazza del Popolo, there will be performances of Il viaggio a Reims, the scenic cantata that has become a representative symbol of the Rossini Opera Festival. Beginning in 2001 the Rof, as part of its Young People’s Festival, has offered Il viaggio performed by young singers who have studied in the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda”. This year, seeing that the Academy’s courses have been postponed until the month of October, the opera will be sung by some of the best pupils of recent years.
The performances will be given in the well tried staging, which has also travelled to the Teatro Real, Madrid and the Florence May Festival, devised by Emilio Sagi and rehearsed by Elisabetta Courir, with costumes by Pepa Ojanguren. Giancarlo Rizzi will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini. The cast of the two evenings consists of Maria Laura Iacobellis (Corinna), Chiara Tirotta (Marchesa Melibea), Claudia Muschio (Contessa di Folleville), Claudia Urru (Madama Cortese), Matteo Roma (Cavalier Belfiore), Pietro Adaini (Conte di Libenskof), Nicolò Donini (Lord Sidney), Diego Savini (Don Profondo), Michael Borth (Barone di Trombonok), Jan Antem (Don Alvaro), Alejandro Sánchez (Don Prudenzio), Antonio Garés (Don Luigino), Carmen Buendía (Delia), Valeria Girardello (Maddalena), Francesca Longari (Modestina), Oscar Oré (Zefirino / Gelsomino), Elcin Huseynov (Antonio).
