The thirty-eighth edition of the Rossini Opera Festival will take place between the 10th and 22nd August.  The Festival will be dedicated to the memory of Alberto Zedda.  The festival programme offers the very first performances of the critical edition of Le siège de Corinthe, the return of La pietra del paragone after a fifteen-year absence, and the rarely-performed Torvaldo e Dorliska. Beside these main operas, whose opening  nights will be broadcast live by RaiRadioTre, the customary revival of Il viaggio a Reims will be performed by promising young singers from the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” and relayed in direct streaming; the usual series of Bel Canto Concerts (featuring Luca Pisaroni and Margarita Gritskova), concerts by The Tenors (with John Irvin, Sergey Romanovsky and Michael Spyres) and by IldarAbdrazakov; a new event in the Rossinimania series (L’organosuona Rossini, music of Rossini transcribed for organ); the concluding Stabat Mater, projected through video to the Piazza del Popolo; the opera studies programme for children Il viaggetto a Reims; the traditional Incontri, lecture meetings organized by the musicologists of the Fondazione Rossini.

Le siege de Corinthe (to be produced on the 10th, 13th, 16th and 19th August at 7.00 p.m. at the Adriatic Arena) will be directed by Carlus Padrissa of the Catalan collective La Fura dels Baus, together with the artist Lita Cabellut.  Roberto Abbado will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, making their first appearance in Pesaro, and the chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. Besides Nino Machaidze the cast will include Luca Pisaroni, John Irvin, Sergey Romanovsky and Carlo Cigni, all making their Pesaro débuts, together with promising young singers who have studied at the Accademia Rossiniana in recent years, XabierAnduaga, Iurii Samoilov and Cecilia Molinari.

The second opera on the bill is La pietra del paragone, to be given on the 11th, 14th, 17th and 20th August at 8.00 p.m. at the Adriatic Arena, in an ROF production dating from 2002 by Pier Luigi Pizzi which has been re-modeled for the new stage space. Daniele Rustioni will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. Among the singers, Gianluca Margheri and William Corrò will be making their débuts in Pesaro, together with ex-pupils of the Accademia Rossiniana who are enjoying successful careers such as Aya Wakizono, Aurora Faggioli, Marina Monzò, Maxim Mironov, Davide Luciano and Paolo Bordogna.

The third opera on the bill, Torvaldo e Dorliska, will be performed at the Teatro Rossini on the 12th, 15th, 18th and 21st August at 8.00 p.m., staged by Mario Martone and revived following its original great success in 2006.  Francesco Lanzillotta, making his Pesaro début, will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini and the chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna M. Agostini. The title rôles will be undertaken by Dmitry Korchak and Salome Jicia, supported by Nicola Alaimo, Carlo Lepore, Raffaella Lupinacci and Filippo Fontana.
