On Thursday 18th August, at the Teatro Rossini at 4.00 p.m., Michael Spyres will give a concert in homage to the tenor Adolphe Nourrit, one of the greatest singers of the first half of the nineteenth century, accompanied by the Orchestra G. Rossini conducted by David Parry. The programme includes music by L. Cherubini, G. Rossini, D.F. Auber, J.F. Halévy, G. Pacini, G. Donizetti and L. Niedermeyer.
The tenor Michael Spyres was born in Mansfield (Missouri). He is frequently to be heard in the leading opera houses, such as La Scala (Il viaggio a Reims and La donna del lago), the Salzburg Festival (Betulia liberata), the Royal Opera House (La donna del lago), the Liceu, Barcelona (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), the Deutsche Oper, Berlin (Il flauto magico), the Chicago Lyric Opera (Die Fledermaus and The Merry Widow), the Monnaie (Guillaume Tell), the Amsterdam Opera (Il viaggio a Reims), the Semperoper, Dresden (La gazza ladra), and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (Mitridate, Re di Ponto).
Future engagements include the Royal Opera House, the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, the Zürich Opera, the Staatsoper and the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
He has recorded La gazzetta, Otello, Le siège de Corinthe, Guillaume Tell and the Petite messe solennelle and a record of operatic arias, A Fool for Love.
Michael Spyres first appeared at the Rof in 2012 in Ciro in Babilonia (Baldassare); in 2013 he was Rodrigo in a concert performance of La donna del lago and gave a concert in the Bel Canto Concerts series; in 2014 he took the leading rôle in Aureliano in Palmira while this year he was Rodrigo again in La donna del lago.
