The 41st Rossini Opera Festival will be held between the 8th and the 21st August 2020. The programme envisages three new productions (Moïse et Pharaon, La cambiale di matrimonio and Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra), Il viaggio a Reims by the pupils of the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” and a staged version of the Stabat Mater.
Moïse et Pharaon (8, 11, 14 and 18 August at the Vitrifrigo Arena) will be staged by Pierluigi Pizzi, in collaboration with Massimo Gasparon. Giacomo Sagripanti will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso (chorus master Giovanni Farina). The cast includes Roberto Tagliavini, Erwin Schrott, Olga Peretyatko, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Monica Bacelli, Andrew Owens, Ruzil Gatin, Nicolò Donini and Matteo Roma.
La cambiale di matrimonio (9, 12, 15 and 19 August at the Teatro Rossini), a co-production with the Royal Opera House of Muscat, will be conducted by Dmitry Korchak. The Orchestra Sinfonica G. Rossini will be in the pit. The staging will be by Laurence Dale, with scenery and costumes designed by Gary McCann. The singers include Carlo Lepore, Dilyara Idrisova, Davide Giusti, Iurii Samoilov, Alexander Utkin and Martiniana Antonie. The programme will be filled up with the Cantata Giovanna d’Arco (sung by Marianna Pizzolato) and the alternative Overture to L’equivoco stravagante, which will be receiving its first performance in the Critical Edition.
Elisabetta, regina d’Inghilterra (10, 13, 17 and 20 August at the Vitrifrigo Arena) will be conducted by Evelino Pidò with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. The staging will be by Davide Livermore, with scenery by Giò Forma and costumes by Gianluca Falaschi. The cast features Karine Deshayes, Sergey Romanovsky, Sonia Prina, Mariangela Sicilia, Barry Banks and Oscar Oré.
Among the concerts we should highlight the Recital of Rossini Rarities by Juan Diego Flórez (16th August at the Vitrifrigo Arena, with the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini conducted by Michele Spotti), the concert by the buffo trio Alfonso Antoniozzi-Paolo Bordogna-Alessandro Corbelli (19th August at the Teatro Rossini, with the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini conducted by Iván López Reynoso) the Concerti di Belcanto featuring Eleonora Buratto (13th August), Maxim Mironov (17th August) and Karine Deshayes (21st August), all at the Teatro Rossini, and the Sei sonate a quattro played by the Solisti Veneti conducted by Giuliano Carella (20th August at the Teatro Rossini).
The 2020 Festival will close on the 21st August at the Vitrifrigo Arena with an unusual staged version of the Stabat Mater, produced by Massimo Gasparon. Jader Bignamini will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the Chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso. The soloists will be Giuliana Gianfaldoni, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Ruzil Gatin and Riccardo Fassi.
