First of the Incontri

The first of the Incontri [Lecture-meetings] organized during the Festival in collaboration with the Fondazione Rossini will be held on Saturday 9th August at 11.30 a.m. in the Sala della Repubblica of the Teatro Rossini. This Conversazione [lecture] will be given by the musicologist Marco  Beghelli, and will deal with the music of Armida, the opera that will open the XXXV Rossini Opera Festival the following day.

Three other similar programmes have been arranged, all at 11.30 a.m. in the Sala della Repubblica of the theatre: on Tuesday 12th August Ilaria Narici, director of the Fondazione’s critical editions, together with Will Crutchfield, editor of the critical edition of the opera that he will also be conducting, and the stage director Mario Martone, will present an introduction to Aureliano in Palmira; on Thursday 14th August Matteo Giuggioli, editor of the critical edition, will introduce Le Sonate a Quattro [the string quartets]; and on Sunday 17th August Will Crutchfield will present a lecture-recital entitled Giovanni Battista Velluti: un virtuoso per Aureliano [Giovanni Battista Velluti: a virtuoso singer for Aureliano] with Giulia De Blasis and Aya Wakizono from the Accademia Rossiniana.
