On Wednesday 20 August at 4.30 p.m. the Teatro Rossini will be the scene of the recital by an icon of the international operatic scene, Ewa Podles, who will be accompanied by the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini conducted by Carlo Tenan.
The comtralto was born in Warsaw, won numerous competitions, completing her musical education at the Chopin Academy of Warsaw. Her repertoire runs from the baroque to Penderecki, including Rossini bel canto, the heroines of Verdi and Strauss, as well as works by the major Russian composers.
She has sung in the world’s most important theatres and concert halls and participated in the major music Festivals, including the Festivals of Aix-en-Provence, Flanders and Montpellier, the Festival International de Lanaudière, Carnegie Hall, New York, the Wigmore Hall, London, the Salle Gaveau, Paris, and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. She has worked with such important conductors as David Atherton, Myung-Whun Chung, Charles Dutoit, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Christopher Hogwood, Armin Jordan, Lorin Maazel and Peter Maag.
Apart from concerts, at the Rossini Opera Festival she has sung Giunone in the pastiche based on Le nozze di Teti, e di Peleo staged in the wooden theatre of Villa Caprile (2001) and the title rôle in the recent Ciro in Babilonia (2012).
The programme includes music by Mozart, Gluck, Weber, Rossini, Donizetti, Prokoviev, Glinka, Ponchielli.
