The Covid-19 pandemic, which has so severely struck our country, among the first to suffer, has also caused deep loss to the town of Pesaro. The Pesaro Town Council and the Rossini Opera Festival have decided to dedicate the preview event of the 41st edition of the ROF to honouring the memory of the victims and rendering homage to the front line helpers: the Petite messe solennelle, the last sacred masterpiece of Gioachino Rossini, will be performed on Thursday 6th August at 8.30 p.m. in Piazza del Popolo, the main square of the town, as a moving celebration of a mourning that is at the same time both personal and collective. The performance is sold out.
The Mass will be performed in its original version for two pianofortes and harmonium. Alessandro Bonato will conduct the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna (chorus master Mirca Rosciani), and the cast will consist of Mariangela Sicilia (soprano), Cecilia Molinari (mezzo-soprano), Manuel Amati (tenor) and Mirco Palazzi (bass). Giulio Zappa and Ludovico Bramanti will be the pianists, Luca Scandali will preside at the harmonium.
