40th Edition of the ROF 11 – 23 August

This summer the Rossini Opera Festival achieves its fortieth edition, dedicated to Montserrat Caballé and Bruno Cagli.  The ROF XL will be held in Pesaro from the 11th to the 23rd August and will offer two new productions: Semiramide, a co-production with the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Liège, conducted by Michele Mariotti and staged by Graham Vick, and L’equivoco stravagante, conducted by Carlo Rizzi and staged by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier.  The bill also includes a revival of the rarely heard Demetrio e Polibio in Davide Livermore’s production, conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni.  All three operas will be broadcast live by Rai RadioTre, while in the autumn Semiramide will be shown on the Rai5 television station.

The Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai will take part in Semiramide and L’equivoco stravagante, together with the chorus of the Teatro Ventidio Basso; the Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini will play for Demetrio e Polibio with the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna  M. Agostini.

The cast of Semiramide, programmed for the Vitrifrigo Arena on the 11th, 14th, 17th and 20th August at 7.00 p.m., features Salome Jicia in the title rôle, together with Varduhi Abrahamyan (Arsace), Nahuel Di Pierro (Assur), Antonino Siragusa (Idreno), Martiniana Antonie (Azema), Carlo Cigni (Oroe), Alessandro Luciano (Mitrane), Sergey Artamonov (L’ombra di Nino).

Jessica Pratt (Lisinga), Cecilia Molinari (Demetrio-Siveno), Juan Francisco Gatell (Demetrio-Eumene) and Riccardo Fassi (Polibio) will sing in Demetrio e Polibio, presented at the Teatro Rossini on the 12th, 15th, 18th and 23rd August at 8.00 p.m.

The cast of L’equivoco stravagante, to be given at the Vitifrigo Arena on the 13th, 16th, 19th and 22nd August at 8.00 p.m., includes Teresa Iervolino (Ernestina), Paolo Bordogna (Gamberotto), Davide Luciano (Buralicchio), Pavel Kolgatin (Ermanno), Claudia Muschio (Rosalia) and Manuel Amati (Frontino).

The rest of the programme will be made up of Il viaggio a Reims by pupils of the Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda”, with the Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini conducted by Nikolas Nägele (18th and 20th August at 11.00 a.m. at the Teatro Rossini); the Gala ROF XL, on the 21st August at 20.30 p.m. at the Vitrifrigo Arena, including some of today’s leading Rossini singers (Nicola Alaimo, Paolo Bordogna, Lawrence Brownlee, Juan Diego Flórez, Ruzil Gatin, Valeria Girardello, Anna Goryachova, Alessandro Luciano, Angela Meade, Claudia Muschio, Mirco Palazzi, Michele Pertusi, Sergey Romanovsky and Franco Vassallo; the cantata La riconoscenza, on the 14th August at 4.00 p.m. at the Teatro Rossini, conducted by Donato Renzetti and sung by Carmela Remigio, Victoria Yarovaya, Ruzil gatin and Mirco Palazzi, with the Filarmonica G. Rossini and the Chorus of the Teatro della Fortuna M. Agostini; the Soirées musicales in Fabio Maestri’s orchestration, on the 16th August at the Teatro Rossini at 4.00 p.m., with Maria Laura Iacobellis, Valeria Girardello, Xabier Anduaga and Carles Pachón, with the Filarmonica G. Rossini conducted by Michele Spotti; two Concerti lirico-sinfonici  (operatic-orchestral concerts) by the Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini, the first on the 19th August at the Teatro Rossini at 4.00 p.m. with Varduhi Abrahamyan and Jesssica Pratt, conducted by Carlo Tenan, the other also at the Teatro Rossini, and on the 23rd August at 4.00 p.m., with Anna Goryachova and Simone Alberghini, conducted by Alessandro Bonato; two Bel canto concerts at the Teatro Rossini, Angela Meade on the 17th August at 4.00 p.m. and Antonino Siragusa on the 22nd August at 4.00 p.m.; the new episode of Rossinimania, on the 15th August at the Teatro Rossini at 11.00 a.m., featuring the Italian Harmonists, La Scala voices in a quintet unique of its kind in Italy.
