Palacio confirmed as Sovrintendente

21 December 2018
The Assembly of the founding bodies of the Rossini Opera Festival, following a procedure of manifestation of public interest, has appointed M ° Ernesto Palacio as Sovrintendente for the four-year period 2019-2022.

Palacio is Artistic Director of the ROF since 2016; in March 2017 he assumed the role of Director of the Accademia Rossiniana, while in September of the same year he took over from Gianfranco Mariotti in the role of Sovrintendente.

Closed his career as a singer, during which he has performed in major international theaters under the direction of C. Abbado, Schippers, Levine, Sawallisch, Maag, Chailly, Prêtre and Zedda, Palacio has discovered and launched numerous prominent artists of the new bel canto generation and is considered one of the greatest international experts in Rossini vocalism. In his repertoire there are about eighty works (as many as 20 of Rossini) and over a hundred orators, masses and other vocal compositions. There are 40 recordings, among them 8 Rossini titles.

The President of the ROF Daniele Vimini said: "With the appointment of Palacio, the Festival consolidates a strategy of renewal on solid foundations, started after Gianfranco Mariotti's turnover last year. A new generation has taken on new responsibilities, and the reconfirmation of an expert guide like that of Palacio, accompanied by exciting results, allows the Festival to look at new challenges with strength and determination, starting from the internationalization, the expansion of programming and the increase in work for artists and workers, and the focus on growing the already very significant economic impact on the territory, as well as the image of Pesaro in the world. "

Ernesto Palacio added: "I thank the Members Assembly for the trust it has renewed for me. My vision of the ROF of the future foresees a strong development of the deseasonalization of the activity, through the organization of concerts, lyric productions, touring and the reopening of the Scenography Workshops; another aspect that will be developed is the internationalization of initiatives, thanks to the network of contacts created within the Rossini150 project, also through auditions in theaters and musical institutions chosen in the most interesting geographical areas. The first objective of the next 4 years must however be excellence: quality pays and we have seen that by doing so the public increases and consequently the economic income. "
